State pensioners have been told to to stop taking baths - because they could be handed £100. Pensioners who opt not to get in the bath, but instead use the shower, have been told it could manage to shave their bill by £100 amid the Cost of Living crisis and Winter Fuel Payment cut.

Cheryl Risdon of Assisted Living, says households can save up to £120 by uupgrading to water-efficient fixtures. This can be things like a dual-flush mechanism, because this then lets you to use less water for liquid waste, while installing low-flow showerheads and aerators on taps to decrease water flow will also add up to substantial savings over time.

Households installing a water meter, meanwhile, can help shave £50 to £100 off your bill. This extra control and insight should encourage you to be more mindful of your water consumption and also means you are then able to detect and fix leaks promptly, preventing wastage and unexpectedly high bills.

Other options include shorter showers. She said: "By shortening your shower by just 2 minutes, you could save around 40 litres of water per shower. Another way you can make your shower far more cost-effective is by installing a water-efficient showerhead.

"Similarly to water meters, these have risen in popularity of late and restrict water flow without compromising pressure, potentially saving you an additional 20 litres per minute. If you are a family of four, and each of you shower daily, then you could be saving up to £100 a year on your water bill."

This can save £70 to £100. She explained: "Showering over taking a bath - If you are able to shower rather than have a bath, you may want to consider showering more often. A short shower can use as little as 1/3 less water than a typical bath does. If you can only take baths, you may still want to consider not filling the tub all the way as this could use 80 litres of water."
