A full list of areas offering pensioner cost of living payments worth up to £200 after the Winter Fuel Payment cut has been revealed. Under the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and new Labour Party government, eligibility for Winter Fuel Allowances is changing.

But to compensate, some local authorities have acted to hand out Cost of Living payments to pensioners. East Riding of Yorkshire Council was awarded nearly £2.1million in the latest round of the scheme to help local people in need.

Low-income pensioners, disabled people, care leavers and those who are financially in crisis can claim £200. Elsewhere, Newcastle City Council says £950,000 of its near-£3million pot will be given to those who are pensionable age in receipt of Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit but who don’t qualify for the Winter Fuel Allowance.

Pensioners who still receive the Winter Fuel Allowance (i.e. those receiving Pension Credit) will receive £80. Pensioners who no longer receive the Winter Fuel Allowance (i.e. those not receiving Pension Credit) will receive £130, the council says.

All other households in receipt of Council Tax Support will get £80. Wigan Council says if you are a pensioner in receipt of Council Tax Reduction you receive support to help rising costs in energy as the Cost of Living crisis continues, while Derby's councillor Sarah Chambers said there would be "targeted assistance" for pensioners in the East Midlands region.

Telford and Wrekin Council said it would give pension-age residents who receive Housing Benefits and/or Council Tax Reduction one £100 supermarket voucher per household. Peterborough Council said that it will give £100 vouchers to struggling OAPs, too.

Cornwall Council will make an £80 payment to an additional 3,000 pensioners in receipt of council tax support this winter.
