10 energy-saving hacks that can save state pensioners £356 a year on your energy bills after the Winter Fuel Allowance cut – including a little-known tap trick - have been revealed. 10 simple tricks could help you save £356 a year, including one little-known tap tweak, are being shared ahead of Christmas.

The Energy Saving Trust has listed 10 tips for British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON, Octopus customers. The tips include switching off standby to save £45, draught -proofing windows and doors for £80, turning off the lights for £7

It might seem obvious, but a quick flick of the switch when you're not in a room will, changing up your washing technique for £24 and ditching the tumble dryer for £50. Spend less time in the shower will save you £60 and swapping your bath for a shower will save £9.

Get kitchen savvy will save £29 while maximising your dishwasher saves £12. Proper insulation can save £40 too. It said: "Kettles are one of the most used appliances in the kitchen. But many of us will admit that we occasionally boil the kettle with more water than we’re actually going to use.

"Avoid overfilling the kettle and you can save yourself £10 in GB and £12 in NI a year on your electricity bill. You could also consider fitting an aerator onto your existing kitchen tap. This will help reduce the amount of water coming out without affecting how it washes or rinses. An aerator is a small gadget with tiny holes which attaches to the spout of your tap. It’s cheap and easy to install and could save you £19 in GB and £20 in NI a year.
