State pensioners to wake up to £300 payments
Low-income pensioners will soon be getting a special payment from the Government landing into their bank accounts. They are being reminded to keep an eye on their bank accounts for the arrival of the Winter Fuel Payment.
The winter support payment will be worth either £200 or £300 depending on how old people are. Those aged over 80 will get the higher amount.
The cash will start entering bank accounts within days, though some older eligible people could be waiting a little longer. It is paid out between mid-November and December.

Only those on Pension Credit and certain other benefits will get the Winter Fuel Payment this year, people are being reminded. The Government support was previously universal but has controversially been scrapped this winter for around 10 million pensioners.
Only those on Pension Credit and certain other benefits will now be eligible. Around 1.5 million will still get the payment expected to land in bank accounts from this week. It is designed to help low-income pensioners cope with their energy bills and other pressures over the colder months, though charities argue many poorer pensioners will be left behind because of the changes.
They also point out hundreds of thousands of people don't claim Pension Credit despite being eligible, meaning they'll miss out on the Winter Fuel Payment even though they could have got it. Age UK said: "If you were born on or before September 22, 1958 and receive Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance, you're likely to qualify for the WFP in the winter of 2024-25, as long as you were living in Britain during the qualifying week (this is the week beginning from the third Monday in September – 16 to 22 September 2024).
"You should receive your payment between mid-November and Christmas. Call the Winter Fuel Payment helpline on 0800 731 0160 if you have any enquiries, or you do not receive your payment."
