Statue of Slave Kneeling Before Lincoln Removed From Boston Square

A statue of a slave kneeling before Abraham Lincoln was removed from Park Square in Boston on Tuesday, December 29.

The statue, known as Emancipation Memorial, was removed after city officials agreed in late June to take it down amid complaints and debate over its design, WBUR reported. The statue had stood at the site since 1879.
