'Stay Home and Stay Safe': Yonkers Mayor Inspects Flooded Streets

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano saw for himself the “great deal of flooding” that was affecting several streets locally on September 1, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida brought severe weather to the East Coast.

“The City of Yonkers has flood mitigation efforts in place, but I am asking residents to stay home and stay safe,” Spano wrote on Facebook, where he posted video of flooding on Nepperhan Avenue.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency as the severe weather disrupted power and transport in the city, while several tornado warnings were in place across the region.
