'Steam Devil' Glides Across British Columbia's Wintry Kalamalka Lake

A so-called “steam devil” glided across Kalamalka Lake in Oyama, British Columbia, on February 12.

Casey Neufeld filmed a video that shows a thin veil of vapor moving across the water. Neufeld told Storyful that she had not witnessed anything like it.

“My reaction when seeing this steam spout was curiosity mostly. I thought it was pretty neat and was worth filming,” Neufeld said.

In a tweet, CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe described the video as “looking like a steam devil”. According to a local news outlet, other waterspouts were spotted on the nearby Okanagan Lake on the same date. Credit: Casey Neufeld via Storyful
