Steering Wheels And False Teeth - The Bizzare Items Flushed Down Britain’s Toilets

A bizarre array of items, including a pair of false teeth and even a steering wheel, have been fished out by engineers at a water recycling centre near Lincoln.

Comic Relief red noses, wallets and footballs are just some of the strange items blocking Britain’s drains.

Lincolnshire based Anglian Water revealed that the most commonly found items surfing the sewers are mobile phones, dog toys and lego.

However the real problem is the sheer amount of ‘fatbergs’ which accumulate after fat is flushed down the loo - causing 30,000 blockages a year in east England alone.

Worryingly, 21 tonnes of waste, the equivalent of five elephants, is wrongly flushed each week in Lincoln.

To battle the bogs, Anglian Water have launched a ‘Keep it Clear’ campaign, designed to make residents think twice about what they flush down the drain.
