There were 300 birds to admire at the Tropical Bird Park in St Lawrence, and Hovertravel had a deal for families to go to the mainland back for just £7.50.

A meal at the Heathfield House Hotel in Freshwater would set you back just 60p for a homemade soup starter, £4.75 for a chicken Kiev main, and 85p for a gateau pudding.

Home entertainment was supplied by Radio Rentals, which had bases in Newport and Ryde High Streets.
