Stephen Curry reportedly targeting March 1 vs. Wizards for return from broken hand

Stephen Curry has his mind set on playing this season and is eyeing March 1 as his comeback, The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II reported Sunday.

Curry has been out since Oct. 30 with a broken left hand and will have missed 51 games, a career-high, by the All-Star break. The Golden State Warriors host the Washington Wizards the night Curry hopes to be back and have 22 games on the schedule he could play in. It’s expected he’ll make a game appearance this season, per Thompson, even if he misses that target.

Curry, who returned to the bench in December to much excitement, played sideline analyst during Saturday’s game with the Orlando Magic and said rehab is tough, but is “going great.”

"I've been making progress," Curry said, via NBC Bay Area Sports. "No setbacks which is definitely encouraging to get back to 100% as soon as possible."

The two-time MVP was ruled out by the Warriors for three months after undergoing surgery on Nov. 1. A report circulated days later that he wasn’t planning to return for the 2019-20 season, but two weeks later he told the media he “definitely” expected to play this season and was aiming for some point in the spring.

Head coach Steve Kerr told Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes last week there was an “excellent chance” Curry would be back in March and that fans deserved to see him play.

Curry’s return won’t help the Warriors make much noise in the standings, though it could negatively impact their 2020 draft. They’re currently 10-34, worst in the league and therefore in line for a top-5 pick.
