Steph McGovern had to have her wedding ring cut off by the fire services after suffering an injury to her finger.

The Steph’s Packed Lunch presenter slammed her finger in a door frame which caused it to turn purple and swell three times its normal size with her wedding ring painfully stuck on.

The 39-year-old tried a number of things - including soap, water, ice and a ribbon - to remove her wedding ring before she put the call into the fire service.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Ms McGovern said: “Eventful morning…..started with trip to @FireHarrogate to get a ring cut off swollen finger I’d trapped in door……

"Thanks so much to Matt @TurnerTurner11, Lisa @Arcticwolf31, Dave + James for sorting it out!

"Straight after had to take my daughter for first ever day at nursery."

She also shared a series of snaps of the moment the ring was cut off and another of her posing in front of a fire engine with firefighters.

The presenter was apparently left red-faced over the situation.

However, the fire service were “so lovely” when they came to the star’s rescue.

A source told The Sun: "Poor Steph was horrified to see her finger swelling by the minute.

"She was Googling various remedies to try and get it off but to no avail. In the end she called her local fire station who told her to pop round, and they’d get their tools out - a ring-cutter - and fix it.

"She was a bit embarrassed, but everyone was so lovely. It made a change from getting cats out of trees and, well, fighting fires."
