Stephen Colbert says Russian intelligence officers followed him during recent visit to country

Over the past year, late-night comedy host Stephen Colbert has been criticising the Donald Trump administration nightly, often commenting on their alleged Russian ties.

Last week, Colbert went to visit the country, appearing on a Russian TV show where he jokingly announced he would for President of the United States in 2020.

Appearing back on his own late show, the host explained how both Russian and American intelligence officials followed him around

“Man, it is good to be back in the USA,” he told the audience to rapturous applause. “I don’t know if you knew this, but I was in Russia last week.

"You know who did know I was in Russia? Russian intelligence. Hardcore fans, evidently. Followed me everywhere.

“Also got some attention from American intelligence. Couple guys seemed to pop up everywhere we went.

"But it’s important, keep your eye on a comedian while he’s in Russia doing jokes. I could be giving state secrets to the Russians. Oh, wait, someone’s already got that covered. Someone should investigate that guy.” Watch below.

Meanwhile, Colbert also recently mocked the first lady, Melania Trump, once again recruiting Laura Benanti to impersonate her.
