Line of Duty star Stephen Graham is hard at work filming his newest ITV drama Alder.

The project is based on the tragic real-life story of Christopher Alder, a Black man who was choked to death in 1998 at the age of 37 while in police custody. Five officers were charged with manslaughter and misconduct, but were acquitted by the judge.

The case has brought both the issues of neglect and racism within the police force to the public eye, and has previously been adapted into the stage play Typical.

The photos of Graham on set don't give much away, only showing us that his character is picking a child up from school. We don't know who Graham is playing, but now that production has begun, hopefully we will get some further details soon.

The actor recently appeared in Time, a prison drama for the BBC that also starred The Lord of the Rings legend Sean Bean. When Digital Spy reviewed it, we praised the excellent performances from both actors, and noted that it is – by design – a frustrating watch.

Looking ahead, Graham will be appearing in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and a film called Boiling Point, which sees him play a head chef.

He's also joining the cast of Peaky Blinders for the upcoming sixth series, and the movie adaptation of the Matilda stage musical that's coming out next year.

Alder is yet to get an air date on ITV.
