Steve McFadden Handed Outstanding Achievement Award At The British Soap Awards

We make no secret of our love for the man who brings Phil Mitchell to life, Steve McFadden. Last night, the actor was handed an award for Outstanding Achievement at soap’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Steve has won praise from fans and critics alike for his portrayal of alcoholic hard-man Phil. Just this year, we’ve seen him battle the demon drink again, lose the love of his life and find his beloved mum’s dead body.

Just under two weeks ago, Steve was overwhelmingly praised on social media for his emotional performance as Phil discovered mum, Peggy, had taken her own life. That hot chocolate he was making her! Weep.

Fans took to Twitter to praise him, with one writing: “Steve McFadden’s acting in tonight’s episode was absolutely phenomenal, he definitely needs to win an award.”

Another said: “Steve McFadden is such an underrated actor. He’s got such an amazing range and makes the character of Phil Mitchell iconic.”

While another added: “Peggy’s letter at the end to Phil broke my heart tonight, what an amazing actor.”

Even fellow soap star Beverly Callard - aka Liz McDonald - got on board the Steve McFadden Praise Machine, labelling him ‘absolutely bloody brilliant’.

This comes weeks after fans heaped praise on Steve for portraying drunk Phil so convincingly.

And EastEnders fans were over the moon after Steve was handed the Outstanding Achievement accolade at last night’s bash at the Hackney Empire.
