Steve Morison has called on his Millwall team-mates to deliver “11 big performances” in their make-or-break match against Bristol Rovers in League One on Sunday.

The Lions will qualify for the play-offs if they beat Rovers but a draw or a defeat will open the door for Southend and Rochdale to jump above them on the final day.

Millwall were given a lifeline when they lost 3-0 to Oxford United last weekend but Southend and Rochdale also slipped up, meaning their fate is in their own hands.

Morison admits Millwall will have let themselves down if they miss out on promotion this season and has called on his team-mates to stand up to the pressure of the last match.

“The big games call for big performances from big players,” says Morison. “We need 11 on Sunday. We let ourselves down against Oxford. We had a great opportunity to get into the play-offs but we ruined that with our performance. The main positive that we have to take out of it is that we have still got our fate in our own hands.

“We have now got a one-game season and we have got to stick it all out there. There is going to be a lot of pressure on us. It is a case of dealing with it.”

Millwall, who lost to Barnsley in the play-off final at Wembley last season, were expected to challenge for automatic promotion under Neil Harris but they have been too inconsistent.

The Lions looked certain to finish in the play-offs a couple of months ago but their form has suffered badly since they lost 6-0 to Tottenham in the FA Cup quarter-finals in March. They have taken just 12 points from 10 games since that defeat at White Hart Lane.

Millwall have lost their past two matches and Morison admits missing out on a return to the Championship would be a huge disappointment.

“Promotion was the aim from day one,” he says. “We have not managed to do it automatically so the next best is through the play-offs.

“Promotion is the focus. If we get that then it has been a successful season regardless of what has gone before. If we do not, we have let ourselves down.

“The Tottenham game knocked us for six a little bit. It knocked our confidence and we lost our way a little bit. We have not been consistent enough since then but if you get into the play-offs, nothing that has gone before matters.”

Opponents Bristol Rovers are in midtable and have nothing to play for on the final day. Southend and Rochdale both have home games, against Bury and Bradford. Bury need a point to guarantee survival while Bradford are already assured of a play-off place.

“We do not have to worry about other results,” says Morison. “We have just got to do our job. If we lose then we do not deserve to be in the play-offs. When we do turn up and perform, we are a very good team and can beat anyone in this league. If we turn up on Sunday, we should not have a problem.”
