Steve Parish in the dark as Crystal Palace refuse to 'doorstep' Newcastle target Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has refused to 'doorstep' Marc Guehi about Newcastle United's interest in the defender.
Guehi is understood to be keen on the move, but the Crystal Palace captain is not the type of character who will put undue pressure on the Eagles after recognising what the club have done for him in the last three years. It leaves Newcastle with a delicate quandary that Eddie Howe indirectly touched on last week: to walk away and move for an alternative because Crystal Palace's asking price is 'too much' or to continue to push for a player the Magpies 'believe' in as long as it fits within the club's financial structure.
Crystal Palace's 'superstar' valuation remains the sticking point. Guehi may only have less than two years left on his contract, but Crystal Palace know the centre-back's stock has never been higher following his performances at the Euros.

"We need to get a deal that we agree," Parish told talkSPORT. "Marc and his agents are people who do things the right way.
"Obviously, there will be a conversation that will have to be had about Marc's personal terms and whether that's the club for him and whether he feels that's his next port of call or destination. Honestly, I don't know. I have a lovely relationship with Marc. I don't walk into the dressing room after training and doorstep him and say, 'Do you want to go or not?'
"He's certainly a lovely lad. We chatted about his experience with England, which he enjoyed. To get to a final in his debut period is fantastic. I know he's very happy at Crystal Palace and Marc is very much one of those people where what will be will be and who will look at the opportunity as it's presented and make a decision on what he wants to do."
