For those lucky US fans who have already seen Ant-Man and the Wasp, you will have now witnessed the villainous Ghost doing her best to throw a spanner in the works for our heroes Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly).

And actress Hannah John-Kamen, who plays Ghost, has now revealed the very cool reason why she got cast in the role.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, she revealed that it was in fact Steven Spielberg who put in a good word for her ahead of her casting.

John-Kamen said that Spielberg, who directed her in Ready Player One, wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed a letter suggesting that she'd be great for the part.

"It said, 'Dear Peyton, I'm excited you're doing the movie and I just want to put in the good word for Hannah. I worked with her and she was terrific. Signed, Steven Spielberg'," the actress said.

And she knows full well just what a massive deal it is to get an endorsement from Spielberg, arguably one of the most prolific film directors and producers of all time.

"To have a letter from Steven Spielberg – come on, who says that out loud? It's really wonderful, and it's an honour," she said.

In the Marvel comics, Ghost is an inventor and hacker who creates a suit that grants superhuman powers such as invisibility and the ability to phase through walls and objects.

The film has made at least one significant change to the character, as it's made Ghost into a female character, rather than the original male.

And John-Kamen is no stranger to girl power, recently revealing that the Spice Girls were 'her life' when she was growing up.

"My birthday was Spice Girls-inspired. I actually got to meet them," she said. "That was really wonderful. Each of them are their persona."

Ant-Man and The Wasp is out now in the US and arrives in UK cinemas on Friday, August 3.
