Stirling cycle route sees number of journeys double in 2024
A new cycle route in Stirling has recorded a 100 per cent rise in the number of journeys made in summer 2024.
A Cycling Scotland report has analysed cycle counter data from locations across Scotland - and discovered that 14 sites reported increases of more than 30 per cent from the same point in the summer of 2023.
One of those locations was Airthrey Road in Stirling, which is included in the Stirling Station to University cycle route which remains under development as part of a revamp of the city’s cycling infrastructure.
The collected data saw 10,926 people recorded cycling southbound on the route in June, July and August this year - double the 5,295 pedallers over the same three-month period in 2023.
There was also a 40 per cent in the numbers taking to two wheels on Burghmuir Road in the city, moving from 3,270 cyclists on the spot to 4,593 in summer 2024.
