Two Stirling women are preparing to walk 100km in just two days to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

Claire Hall is herself a breast cancer survivor.

She and her “walking buddy” Elaine Morgan Machray are gearing up to take on the mammoth ultra walk challenge in the Lake District on June 8-9.

To date the pair have raised £3,871 of their £5,000 target for the charity Breast Cancer Now.

Claire said: “Every year there are around 55,000 new breast cancer cases in the UK, that’s more than 150 every single day.

“I was one of those in August 2012.

“To mark my 50th year in 2024 I’m talking on the Lake District Ultra Challenge - 100km walk over two days - joined by my amazing walking buddy Elaine Morgan Machray from Stirling Fitness.

“I was lucky enough to get fantastic care after my diagnosis for which I’m incredibly grateful every single day.

“I now volunteer for Breast Cancer Now’s Someone Like Me helpline and know what an incredibly powerful service this is for those looking for advice and counsel when going through breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and after care.

“This is just one of the many amazing services Breast Cancer Now offer.”

Elaine, a style and fitness consultant, said, even with her expertise, the walk is still quite a prospect but that sometimes fitness is about “mind over matter”.

“I am getting on well with my training for this 100km walk over two days in the Lake District,” said Elaine.

“I have to say the thought of doing this distance two days running was and still can be a little daunting - mainly having to repeat the 31 miles with a 1200m climb the following day.

“But my doubts are easing as my training increases - my captain or co-pilot Claire Hall and I walked almost 30 miles in one day recently and suddenly I feel a great motivation to complete more Munros in this better weather.

“Thanks to all who have sponsored us so far and also those who came to my Tortue Fashion Show where we raised over £500.

“We still have a way to go to hit our target so we would be very grateful for any sponsorship no matter how small. Every penny we raise will help to fund this fantastic charity.”
