Stoke City are hoping to welcome back Enda Stevens, Michael Rose and Jordan Thompson to fitness during the international break.

Stoke are likely to have at least five players available next time they are next back in action, against Oxford United on September 14; Stevens, Rose, Thompson and deadline day signings Tom Cannon and Tatsuki Seko, who were not available in time to feature in a 1-0 win at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

There were six other players around the first team who were not in the squad at Home Park. Of those, Ben Pearson is a long-term absentee as he recovers from early summer surgery on a hamstring injury. Andre Vidigal is clearly out of favour, with youth team forward Keke Jeffers preferred on the bench. Freddie Anderson has been with the under-21s after his goal-scoring debut against Carlisle.

But Sam Gallagher (calf) is hoping to make a big step back towards full training over the next fortnight, Jack Bonham is recuperating from a minor wrist injury that needed rest and Bosun Lawal (back) is hoping for the green light to step up his work. Lawal has had to bide his time after his medical highlighted a minor injury when he signed from Celtic last month.

Rose (ankle) and Steven (calf) are hoping to get over injuries they picked up in pre-season and Thompson (calf) should be fine after sitting out the last two matches.

Steven Schumacher told Radio Stoke: "Bosun had another scan on his injury, I think on Friday, and he's progressing. If that scan comes back all clear he can step up his work and it'll take him a few weeks to get up to speed. Sam Gallagher is closer.

"The closest ones that we're going to get next week are Michael Rose and Enda Stevens, who will be there or thereabouts for Oxford."

Coach Alex Morris had said before the Plymouth game: "Jordan isn't going to be too long term, it's a short-term thing but just not ready for this weekend. We don't anticipate it being too serious. We would expect him to comfortably be fit for the fixtures after the international break."
