Daniel Johnson has left Stoke City.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who was signed by his old Preston manager Alex Neil last summer, has been released by mutual consent after making 19 Championship starts for the club. He has interest from clubs in Turkey.

Johnson has been used as a sub once in the league this season and started a Carabao Cup win at Carlisle at left-back but he hasn't started a league match since February, a bad day compounded when he missed a penalty.

His exit has been sanctioned as Steven Schumacher and Jon Walters make changes to the midfield department in the final stages of the summer transfer window. Josh Laurent is on his way to Burnley and Lewis Baker could head to Blackburn while Tatsuki Seko is on the wanted list.

Sporting director Jon Walters said: “Daniel’s minutes on the field have been limited since the latter part of last season and we have mutually decided it is in his and the club’s best interests to part ways.

“We thank Daniel for his efforts during his time at Stoke City and wish him well in his future career.”
