Pupils have been sent home early from school today - due to a power cut. Sandon Primary Academy, in Meir, was left with no choice after the power cut affected the boiler.

In a message to parents, the Harrowby Road school stated: "Unfortunately due to a power cut and a boiler failure, we have no option but to close the school. All the children have had lunch.

"Sorry for the inconvenience. Please be reassured, this decision has not been taken lightly. However, temperatures are dropping across the school and we have no alternative."
