A Stoke-on-Trent high school has issued a serious warning following reports that students had been walking on a nearby frozen lake. The Excel Academy in Sneyd Green has urged parents and carers to speak to their children about the dangers and ensure they do not walk on the lake.

It comes after social media posts reported youngsters being spotted on the frozen lake. The school said in a social media post: "Parents and carers - please be aware that we have had reports that students have been walking on the frozen lake near the academy.

"This is highly dangerous. Please speak to your children about the dangers of this and ensure they are not doing this. We want all our students to be safe over the weekend."
