Stokes Croft shop announces closure after less than a year
An independent shop in Stokes Croft has announced it will be closing its doors. Phat & Co - a fashion, art and wellness gift shop - is closing its studio and gallery premises at number 70 Stokes Croft, but will be keeping its store in Picton Street, Montpelier, open.
In a post to Instagram, the team wrote: "We've made the tough decision to close up shop. After a string of health issues and less availability we just can't put in the hours needed to keep it going.
"Anyone looking for a shop space with a sound landlord get in touch as we'd like to get out sooner rather than later. Big love to all the Stokes Croft community. It's been a ride!"

The post went on to say: "Our Picton Street shop in Montpelier will remain, so you can still find all the lovely items of clothing, jewellery, art prints and cards etc down there after we close up."
Phat & Co is run by Colombian couple Kate and Sebastián, who took on their first shop lease in August 2020, in Montpelier as a 'direct response to the changing circumstances that were presented due to Covid-19'. They later opened their Stokes Croft store in 2023 and, before opening their shops, the couple would usually trade for much of the year at festivals and markets with their cruelty- free feather jewellery and accessories business, Phat Feathers.
The primary shop and headquarters in Montpelier was painted by local artist Farrah Fortnam and depicts an abstract jungle scene, with leafy wooden signage handmade by Hannah Morris-Coole of Omna Studios.
