Mohamed Salah's remarks about his future at Liverpool led to a heated debate on Sky Sports. The Egyptian scored the Reds' third goal in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Salah was on the score sheet alongside Luis Diaz, who scored a brace at Old Trafford, as Liverpool claimed all three points against their bitter rivals. The result means that the Reds are level on points with leaders Manchester City heading into the first international break of the season.

The goal from Salah was his third of the season, adding to his previous strikes against Ipswich Town and Brentford. The performance from the 32-year-old led to debate about his future at Liverpool, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Salah suggested that it could be his final season at Liverpool. The panel on the TV broadcasters coverage included Roy Keane, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, and it was Keane who spoke highly about Salah's "world-class" ability.

"Talk about world-class, he was brilliant, he's a threat, his little touch - you see the bigger picture," he told Sky Sports. "Great example, I love watching him, he's a world-class player."

When the topic moved to Salah's future, Sturridge explained why he does not believe this will be his former teammate's final season at Liverpool.

"I'd be surprised," he said when asked if he thinks Salah will leave Anfield when his contract expires. "I think Mo has achieved pretty much everything at the club but I haven't seen him happier.

"The way he is speaking was if he wants to be at the club, if they want to give him what he wants then he will stay. He looked happy to me, I've not seen him smile ear-to-ear like that."

Keane responded to the suggestion of Liverpool allowing Salah to leave as a free agent as being "silly" from the Reds. The former Man United captain went on to explain why the forward will have plenty of options to choose from whatever happens next summer.

"He's in control of all that, clubs have policies about contracts past 31, 32 but he is in total control," Keane added.

"Whatever contract they come up with, you think they'll have to, he's an amazing player. But put it this way, he will have a lot of options."

The debate around Salah's contract situation continued when Carragher and Neville joined the panel. Host Dave Jones posed Salah's remarks about his future to Carragher, which led to Sturridge interjecting.

"Jamie, he said to us, Mo Salah, I know you weren't here but he [Salah] did say to us, 'This is my last season at Liverpool, I haven't heard from the club, this is my last appearance at Old Trafford'," said Jones. "And it almost sounded like...," Jones added, before Sturridge said: "It didn't sound like nothing, Dave.

"Stop instigating stuff, he's [Jones] stood over there instigating stuff," Sturridge joked. "He [Salah] said what he said, look, I personally don't know."

Carragher went on to have his say on Salah's future and explained why he believes the Egyptian will remain a Liverpool player. The Sky Sports pundit is of the belief that Salah will want to remain at Anfield to break further records at the club.

"Of course you fight to keep him [Salah]," said Carragher. "It's not about throw the money at him. When you get a contract, it's not about what you've done in the past or the future. When you get into your mid-30s, you can't do what you done before, he might be different. That's where I think the argument will be.

"Of course they want to keep him and Virgil van Dijk but it will be about wages. Are they still at the same wages they're on?

"In the next two or three years, that's the debate they will be having. But I'd be surprised if Mo Salah isn't playing for Liverpool next season because he'll want to blitz every record in the club's history."
