The Met Office has predicted more rain for Yorkshire this week with plenty of showers in the forecast.

According to the latest predictions from the meteorologists, it will be a wet week across the county, with “sunny spells, scattered showers and heavy rain” all in the forecast. The prediction of more rain comes in the aftermath of the amber weather warnings which were issued for the region over the weekend and into Monday (September 23), which saw the county battered by heavy rain, flooding and thunderstorms.

The Met Office weather forecast for Yorkshire on Tuesday, September 23, is: “Early rain clearing east to sunny spells and scattered showers, occasionally heavy in the afternoon. Showers giving way to patchy light rain for a time in the evening. Maximum temperature 16 °C.”

Showers are expected to continue throughout Wednesday and will be accompanied by cloudy conditions, before heavy rain arrives on Thursday, with sunny spells and cooler conditions arrive at the end of the week.

The Met Office weather forecast for Yorkshire from Wednesday, September 25, to Friday, September 27, is: “Rather cloudy with rain or showers on Wednesday. Some prolonged and occasionally heavy rain on Thursday. Windy, feeling cold on Friday, with sunny spells and showers.”

Looking ahead to the weekend the outlook sadly isn’t much better - with forecasters predicting “cloud and patchy rain” on both Saturday and Sunday. The long range weather forecast for the UK from Saturday, September 28, to Monday, October 7, is: “The upcoming weekend is expected to see a more settled picture overall as high pressure builds in from the southwest. However, cloud and patchy rain will probably quite quickly spread into the northwest, and is increasingly likely elsewhere by Sunday.

“Into the following week, unsettled conditions look most likely to return for many parts of the UK as Atlantic frontal systems arrive from the west. These would be expected to bring spells of rain, heavy in places, with a risk of strong winds. A more settled spell is possible, but less likely. Temperatures are likely to be near to or below normal throughout, and it is likely to be notably cold at the start of this period, before temperatures recover.”
