As Storm Bert rips through parts of the UK, Birmingham has avoided a yellow weather warning so far. But on Sunday, November 24, there was travel disruption throughout the West Midlands.

Brum was set for non-stop heavy rain with downpours due to persist throughout the day as well as heavy gusts. Meanwhile parts of Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire were under the yellow warning.

Heavy rain in Shropshire was leading to train delays, West Midlands Railway said. Services running between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury were impacted with replacement bus services requested for the line.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews had been sent to Bridgeman Street in Walsall early Sunday morning to rescue a driver stranded in floodwater. On Saturday, market events in Nuneaton were reduced in size over fears of high winds.

The region-wide forecast read: “A damp day with spells of heavy rain, lingering the most across eastern parts of the region but slowly clearing to the southeast, with drier interludes developing from the west. Very mild compared to recent days but staying windy.

“Cloudy with heavy rain gradually clearing eastwards this evening and overnight with clear skies developing through the early hours. Winds easing a touch and feeling cooler.”
