While Surrey may be one of the only places in the country without a weather warning this weekend, it is still looks set to be hit by some severe weather.

Storm Bert will bring with it strong gusts of wind and heavy rain on Saturday (November 23) and Sunday (November 24).

Weather warnings for wind and rain cover large parts of the south of England, including Hampshire, Kent and Sussex but do not quite extend into Surrey

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley said: “Heavy rain through Saturday and Sunday, especially in southern and western parts of the UK, will also bring impacts for some with a number of warnings in place. We expect 50-75 mm of rainfall quite widely within the warning areas, but in excess of 100 mm is possible over high ground in parts of Wales and southwest England.”

Across Surrey the effects of the storm are expected on Saturday (November 23) when it will get much windier. Guildford is forecast to see gusts of wind of 48 mph, and much of the county will see similar.

As well as strong winds, there will also be lots of rain. In Haslemere heavy rain will start at around 4pm and continue for seven hours until 11pm. However, there is also some positive weather news for the weekend.

Storm Bert will bring wet and wind, but also much milder temperatures. On Saturday temperatures in Woking will peak at 13C (like most of the surrounding weather). This is much warmer weather than recent days when the temperature has been much closer to freezing.

On Sunday ( November 24) it is forecast to be more of the same. Strong winds will continue all day, peaking at around midday. If anything these winds are forecast to be slightly stronger than on Saturday, getting to 53mph in Reigate and Haslemere.

Like the wind, the rain will also continue. Across most of Surrey heavy wind will begin at midday and continue late into the evening, past 9pm. These wet conditions will stay until Monday morning when the weather will begin to clear.

For the rest of the week things are expected to stay a bit breezy, but mostly dry with sunny spells. It is also expected to get colder, keeping below 10C.
