A National Trust venue in Plymouth has been forced to close the site and cancel a popular Christmas event this weekend following the threat of Storm Bert.

Saltram was meant to be hosting 'Twas the Night Before Christmas at its grand estate this Saturday (November 23). But due to the threat of adverse weather set to hit large parts of the UK this weekend, including high winds and heavy rain and snowfall, the site will be completely closed to visitors.

National Trust Saltram shared this update on Facebook: "Due to the forecast of very high winds reaching up to 60mph, we have made the difficult decision to close the entire site on Saturday, 23 November for the safety of our visitors, staff, and volunteers. The welcome centre, shop, cafes, garden and house will all be closed.

"We are deeply sorry to cancel a day of Saltram's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas event. If you had a booking, there are still slots available on alternative days, and we encourage you to rebook for another date, an email will be sent to all those with bookings for this date and refunds will be issued.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Thank you for your understanding."
