Storm Bert named as Met Office issues weekend weather warning covering one part of Teesside
Storm Bert is set to sweep away the icy conditions this weekend, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain and strong winds. The upcoming winter storm, named by the Met Office, is expected to "bring impacts to large parts of the UK on Saturday and Sunday".
The latest in long list of weather warnings is for Storm Bert, and this time is for wind, and is in force between 5.00am and 7.00pm on Saturday, November 23. At the moment, it only covers the Redcar and Cleveland area.
The storm will also trigger a sharp increase in temperatures, although the brisk winds may make it feel chillier. The forecast for our region states: "Becoming very windy Saturday with snow, turning to rain later with much milder air arriving. Windy and mild Sunday with rain then showers. Cooler and windy Monday with showers."

Conditions will cool down again on Monday, remaining quite windy, but temperatures will not drop to the lows experienced this week, with daytime highs expected around 9 or 10C. By midweek, temperatures will decrease slightly further, with highs of about 7 or 8C and overnight lows nearing freezing.

The Met Office has warned: "Outbreaks of rain will spread northeastwards on Saturday, preceded by a spell of snow across parts of northern England and Scotland. Whilst snow will become increasingly confined to higher elevations with time, there is the chance of a transient period of snow to low levels in some areas, with perhaps as much as 5-10 cm accumulating in places, especially the Vale of York, before turning back to rain. Temporary snow accumulations of 10-20 cm are possible on ground above 150m, with perhaps as much as 20-40 cm above 300m."
"In conjunction with strengthening winds, difficult driving conditions are likely, especially over higher level routes, with possibly some interruptions to power supplies. In addition, the rapid thaw of lying snow as milder air arrives, with perhaps an additional 20-40 mm of rain in some upland areas during Saturday night, will lead to a greater likelihood of rainfall impacts later in the period."
