Rush hour commuters are facing further travel chaos in the capital after Storm Doris wreaked havoc across London.

Gales of up to 60mph saw trees crash down on train lines and overhead electricity cables damaged leaving services cancelled and delayed on Thursday evening.

Major transport hubs including St Pancras, King’s Cross and Euston Tube station were evacuated due to overcrowding.

Frustrated passengers faced further mayhem on Friday morning as Thameslink services between St Pancras and Luton were disrupted due to blocked lines and damaged cables.

Services through central London were reduced to just six per hour, a spokesman for National Rail said.

Dozens of Virgin trains from Euston to places such as Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow were cancelled in the aftermath of the Atlantic storm.

London Midland customers were advised to check their journeys before travelling as services were delayed and cancelled.

On the London Overground, no trains were running between Romford and Upminster due to “wind related issues”, Transport for London confirmed.

The London Fire Brigade said it was called to more than 100 wind-related incidents at the peak of Thursday’s storm.

Incidents included precarious scaffolding and runaway trampolines as well as fallen trees.

A woman was injured in Croydon after a tree was brought crashing down on to a car.

A lorry driver died following a crash with a lamppost in New Cross, south-east London.

Metropolitan Police are investigating whether the severe winds played a part in the crash.
