Storm Eowyn Brings Huge Waves to Shetland Shores
As Storm Eowyn hit Ireland and the United Kingdom on Friday, January 24, the UK’s Shetland Islands were only just preparing for the worst.
Author Catherine Munro filmed waves crashing onto rocks in Shetland on Friday and posted the video on X.
“The worst of #StormEowyn will hit overnight but already the sea is getting wild,” she wrote on X.
“It’s due to properly hit us at about 10 and continue for much of tomorrow morning,” she added in another post. “We are fairly used to wild weather here, but I’m braced for power cuts, etc.”
Storm Eowyn is expected to move north and east on Saturday morning, according to the UK’s Met Office.
The Shetland Islands were among several regions under an amber weather warning for strong winds on Friday. The Met Office also warned that there could be power cuts, damage to buildings, travel disruptions, and flying debris. Credit: Catherine Munro via Storyful
