Storm Herminia hour-by-hour forecast for Lancashire ahead of new weather warning

Lancashire is braced for more disruption on Sunday with a new weather warning issued by the Met Office.

The yellow warning for strong wind comes into force at 8am tomorrow (Janaury 26) and remains in effect until 3pm. It covers coastal areas of the county, including Blackpool, Lytham, Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Morecambe and gusts of up to 50mph are expected.

It comes after Storm Eowyn battered the UK on Friday with weather alerts covering the nation. Foecasters said it was "pretty exceptional" and "probably the strongest storm" to hit the UK in at least 10 years.

Parts of Ireland saw the highest windspeeds since records began after they reached 114mph while a gust of 100mph was recorded at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire in Scotland that day. More than a million people in the UK were without power, and there was significant travel disruption across the UK and Ireland.

Saturday has been bright and sunny for large parts of the UK but a new weather front from the south west is set to bring wet and windy weather as the weekend continues, with a chance of local flooding.

Meteorologist Tom Morgan said: "The winds have still been strong nonetheless overnight, so it’s definitely not the calm after the storm today. It’s certainly a calmer day, but there is still going to be strong winds around, particularly across Scotland today, but for most of the UK, it’s certainly a much brighter and less windy picture, at least for most of Saturday.

"Thousands of homes (are) still without power this morning, thousands of trees came down onto power cables, and a lot of disruption to transport will continue, probably through the next few days, and I think that there’s still going to be some fairly difficult conditions for recovery operations."

Sunday's yellow weather warning states: "A further period of strong south to southeasterly winds accompanied by some heavy rain is expected to move into the southwest on Sunday morning, then spread to other southern and western areas through the day. Winds are likely to gust 50 to 60 mph quite widely, and around some exposed coasts and hills gusts to 70 mph are possible."
