Storm Filomena Brings 'Rare' Snowfall to Madrid

Up to 20 centimeters (8 inches) of snowfall was forecast to accumulate in Madrid, Spain, by January 9, as Storm Filomena hit through the country, according to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología.

Footage shared by the Embassy of Canada to Spain on January 7 shows a dusting of snow in the historic El Retiro Park, as well as on the streets near Chapel Torre Espacio. The embassy called the snow in Spain “a rare and beautiful sight.”
