Storm Éowyn: Edinburgh issued rare 'danger to life' amber warning for strong winds
A rare amber weather warning has been issued ahead of high winds hitting Edinburgh, with an alert for snow also in place throughout West Lothian.
The Met Office previously issued a yellow warning for wind on Friday, January 24, with Storm Éowyn to bring stormy conditions to the UK, posing a 'danger to life'.
On Wednesday, forecasters upgraded the warning to amber across Edinburgh and the Lothians as well as issuing a further warning of snow in the west of Scotland, including West Lothian.

The amber warning is in place from 6am-9pm on Friday, with a yellow wind warning also in place throughout Saturday.
During that time, Storm Éowyn could bring power cuts with potential to affect other services, disruption to road, rail, air and ferry services, damage to buildings and homes and injuries and danger to life.

Forecasters say this could occur from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
Ahead of possible snow in West Lothian, the Met Office says: "Snow for a time on Friday morning may cause some disruption, before easing and/or turning to rain. Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."
The warning is in place from 3am-12pm on Friday.
