Stormzy films spontaneous singalong to Shut Up with fan’s mum backstage at V Festival

Stormzy celebrated his V Festival performance by filming a backstage singalong with the mother of cricketer Laurie Evans.

The chart-topping grime star was joined by Susan Evans, 60, for an impromptu rendition of hit track Shut Up on Saturday, after her gospel choir joined him on stage earlier in the day.

The clip quickly went viral on social media thanks to Evans’ impressive use of street slang, leaving Stormzy in fits of laughter.

“State your name, Cuz,” she asked the London-born star. “We’re reppin’ innit.”

Evans, whose 27-year-old son Oliver is one of Stormzy’s biggest fans, praised the Londoner for taking the time out to chat to all of his backing singers and performers.

“It was the most mind-blowing thing; when you are a housewife from Croydon you don’t get many opportunities like that,” she said.

“He was so generous and gracious. There were about 30 of us keen to meet him afterwards and he said thank you to all of us and that we sounded awesome.”

She added: “I have worked with famous people onstage before and they are often whisked away, but I asked him if he would do this huge favour that would my son’s day and he said “yeah go for it”.

“My son had showed me Shut Up and so I learned the bit, but then Stormzy flipped the lines on me so I had to do the other side.”

She went on to describe the Stormzy as a “good role model” thanks to his openness about mental health issues, crime and violence.

Although Evans doesn’t have social media, her son tweeted the clip, writing: “When your mum meets Stormzy.”
