A Black Country road was closed off to traffic with buses diverted after a grenade scare. Oakfield Road in the Wollescote area of Stourbridge was shut off on Saturday (September 14) afternoon in what National Express West Midlands described as a ‘police incident’.

The bus company posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly before 2.30pm and said: “Service Disruption. Bus number 7 will be diverting in both directions via: Brook Holloway, Wollescote Road and Walker Avenue.

“We apologise for any disruption to your journey.” Around an hour later the bus company in the Pedmore Fields area said the incident had cleared and the number 7 buses were back on their normal route.

West Midlands Police revealed the road was shut off after a ‘suspected grenade’ was found. A spokeswoman for the force said: “We were called to Oakfield Road, Wollescote, at just before 1pm today, after a suspected grenade was found.

“The road was closed as a precaution and after the item was assessed by the EOD it was found not to be a grenade.”
