A woman was rescued by firefighters after flooding left her stranded in her car near the Nottinghamshire border. The driver became trapped in her BMW in Rectory Lane, Bottesford, on Tuesday afternoon (October 1) due to high waters caused by recent heavy downpours.

Two crews from Newark fire station, along with a unit from Grantham, were called to the Leicestershire village at 5.27pm yesterday. A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the woman was freed within 45 minutes and was not injured.

"We couldn't remove the vehicle so it was left in situ until the water had subsided," he said. Photos of the rescue show water levels so high it covers most of the wheels of the blue BMW.

The vehicle became stranded near the junction with Devon Lane, which runs parallel to the River Devon.
