Yahoo News Stranger Things could get a Hopper spin-off
Stranger Things could be set to explore the backstory of Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) in a spin-off series.
That's according to Adam Christopher – the author of new Stranger Things book Darkness At The Edge Of Town – who has teased that the novel could be adapted for television.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Christopher revealed his book will explore Hopper's past as a homicide detective in New York City, and he purposely wrote the chapters to be episodic in nature so they could easily transfer to television.
"The book begins in New York and includes the blackout," he said. "When I was writing it, I did have in mind the episodic structure.
"So you can imagine if they did the eight episodes like in Stranger Things, the blackout would be the key moment of episode seven and eight. That pacing and structure of the story would lend itself to an adaptation."
On the exploration of Hopper's past, Christopher said: "We get glimpses of his past in the TV show, because obviously he's a Vietnam veteran.
"We know from the TV show that he was in New York because Eleven finds a box underneath the floor in season two. This is the first chance we've really had to look at his family life before everything changed.
"Hopper's life is pretty much in two halves, before Vietnam and after Vietnam, which was a huge part of his life. When Sara died, that became ancient history. It became something lost in time. This is the first time we've seen before Sara's death."
There's no official confirmation from Netflix yet regarding a spin-off series, but at least they know the source material is ready and waiting for them.
Stranger Things returns for its third season on Netflix on July 4. Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming now.
