It's safe to say that Stranger Things season two was a hit – unless you count the whole 'The Lost Sister' episode, which we try not to.

Episode seven went down like a soggy Eggo with fans of the show, but series creators the Duffer Brothers have defended their decision to keep it in.

Which they very nearly didn't, by the way.

Explaining that they "got excited" about the idea of taking a break from Hawkins for an episode, the brothers conceded it might have been a touch too divisive.

"It annoyed some people," Ross Duffer acknowledged during last weekend's Vulture Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Explaining their punk approach to all things, erm, not really punk, Matt Duffer added: "It was intended to give you whiplash.

"Whether the whiplash was too strong or not, I don't know."

But if you thought that 'The Lost Sister' would stay firmly in season two, we're afraid we have some potentially bad news – because it looks like one particular character will return for next season.

Yep, it turns out we haven't seen the last of Kali, played by Linnea Berthelsen.

The brothers stressed that although it's still "very early days" in terms of breaking down the story for their next outing, they already have a few ideas floating around.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix now.
