Face paint and prosthetic ears at the ready, because Comic-Con has officially kicked off in San Diego.

Cosplayers turned up in their thousands on day one of the four-day fan fest, which is the largest event dedicated to all things film, TV, gaming and pop culture.

Dressing up as your favourite character from fictional realms is pretty much an unspoken rule of attending, and this year’s costumes were as weird, wacky and downright epic as ever.

From Power Rangers to Skeletor, Stranger Things tributes to Okami characters, attendees hit hot glue gun and sewing machine hard ahead of the big day.

Over the next few days, attendees will be treated to exclusive previews of upcoming film and TV releases, panel talks featuring some of the biggest names in Hollywood and the chance to network with other superfans.

Alongside thousands of cosplayers, stars including Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Charlize Theron and the cast of new Justice League film are expected to attend the event.

Yesterday, Halle Berry turned up to promote her latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, wowing fans by downing almost an entire glass of whiskey during a panel talk.
