Stranger Things star joins Alone in the Dark remake

Stars from Stranger Things and Killing Eve have joined the remake of the classic survival horror game Alone in the Dark.

Developers THQ Nordic has confirmed the long-awaited remake will be arriving in October, for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5, with pre-orders available now on Amazon UK (including an 8% price cut for the PS5 version).

The developers have signed up Jodie Comer and David Harbour to portray Alone in the Dark's new protagonists, Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby. Players can choose between the two characters.

Newly-released game footage has promised to honour the original's unsettling premise of being trapped inside the walls of a mansion haunted by hostile spirits.

Emily enlists Edward to do some detective work inside the mansion in hopes of finding her missing uncle Jeremy Hartwood – long-time players will certainly remember the Hartwoods from the 1992 game and its film spinoff.

The classic game has won numerous awards, and inspired two live-action movies in the 2000s.

Christian Slater played paranormal investigator Edward Carnby in the first film, released in 2005, and was replaced by The Fast and the Furious star Rick Yune for the second movie in 2008.

Multiple video game spinoffs have also been produced, with the newest version from THQ Nordic featuring art from Guy Davis – known for his work with Guillermo del Toro on vampire TV drama The Strain and horror films Crimson Peak and The Shape of Water.

Players will have a unique experience depending on which character they choose, as NPCs will respond differently depending on the choices they make.
