Stranger Things Will Use ‘All the Tools Available to Us’ to Keep Teens Looking Young(-ish) in Final Season
Wondering how Stranger Things will maintain the kids’ youthful looks without a significant time jump? Well, so is everyone.
In a new interview with Variety, executive producer and director Shawn Levy acknowledged that the increased “passage of time is definitely not helping.”

“We’ve already watched the cast of our show grow up in the public eye, and between 12 and 22, every human being changes profoundly,” he said. “That being said, our hair and makeup and wardrobe department are pretty exceptional, using costumes and wigs and makeup. The ’80s are also our friends in returning these young adult actors to their iconic Hawkins characters. So we’re going to use all the all the tools available to us. And I know our cast is as eager to get back to work as the rest of us.”
Stranger Things premiered back in 2016 and followed up its excellent first season with new episodes in 2017 and 2019. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges productions faced during the shutdown, the two-part Season 4 didn’t release until 2022. Now, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike (in addition to the WGA strike that recently ended), the show likely won’t go back into production until 2024, which means that the final run of episodes won’t be hitting our screens any time soon. The current ETA for the fifth and final season: sometime in 2025.
