A 73-year-old woman has been charged with murdering her husband after he was found dead at a home in east London.

Packiam Ramathan will appear in court on Monday charged with killing Kanagusabi Ramathan, 75, at a house on Burges Road, East Ham.

Police were called to the house shortly before 2.30pm on Friday when the London Ambulance Service alerted them to the death of an elderly man.

When they arrived officers found Mr Ramathan had died from serious head injuries. They arrested his wife shortly after.

Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole, of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "While I'm confident we have charged the only suspect involved in this incident, I would still like to appeal to anyone who may have information that could help us piece together the chain of events that led to a man losing his life.

"In particular, I'd like to hear from anyone who had contact with the defendant or victim in the days and hours leading up to this event."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting CAD 4064/21 Sept.
