Street artist's identity revealed as Royal Academy-trained painter
An eye-catching piece of street art has been revealed as the work of a Royal Academy-trained painter with a secret sideline in graffiti.
The Standard launched a search last month to find the artist behind a group of spindly dancing figures splashed on the pavement in Trafalgar Square.
Organisers of new biennale SPLASH! had offered its creator a spot at their show.
But painter Jonathan Huxley has revealed it was him — and admitted he was at first hesitant to come forward as the work’s semi-permanent nature was a “mistake”. Huxley is extremely short-sighted and said he used oil pastels instead of chalk by accident.
“It lasted longer than planned,” he said, adding: “If [SPLASH!] can offer me a slab of granite or concrete to work on, then I will be happy to talk.”
