Streets Swamped by Flash Flooding in Brooklyn as Emergency Declared

A state of emergency was declared by Gov Kathy Hochul across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley on September 29, due to what she called “extreme rainfall we’re seeing throughout the region.”

Flash flooding was seen in multiple areas after the rain, with footage here by Vanessa Velez-Panzella showing conditions in the Ditmas Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.

A flash flood warning was in effect for the area until after midday, the National Weather Service said, with similar warnings in place across the city and in New Jersey. Credit: Vanessa Velez-Panzella via Storyful
