Streets Under Water as Deadly Flooding Hits Northeast India

Vehicles plowed through a submerged street in Silchar, India, on May 17, as deadly flooding hit the northeastern state of Assam.

Footage recorded by Sabita Chanda shows a flooded road in Silchar, the capital of the Cachar District of India’s Assam state.

National media reported that at least 11 people had died in the floods in Assam state.

The Assam Disaster Management Authority’s daily flood report said more than 400,000 people were affected by extensive flooding in the state, with more than 39,000 having to stay at relief camps.
