A large stretch of Freeman Street will remain closed to motorists for several more days after a water main burst last week.

Overnight on Tuesday, September 17, the water main burst, leaving the street severely flooded and thousands of properties across Grimsby left with low water pressure and discoloured water.

Some residents in the immediate area were left with no water at all, and many businesses were forced to close for the day.

Workers from Anglian Water were on Freeman Street throughout the day to rectify the issue, which was fixed for residents and businesses by the afternoon.

However, a large stretch of Freeman Street remains closed, with diversions in place from Wellington Street to Nelson Street.

Anglian Water has confirmed the section of road will "need to remain closed until next week" to allow workers to complete the "complex job" and make the road safe for motorists and pedestrians.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We are sorry for any traffic disruption on Freeman Street in Grimsby. We needed to close the road in order to enable our teams to repair a burst main in the area.

“This is a complex job, so Freeman Street will need to remain closed until next week while we make the road safe to walk and drive on again. We’d like to thank customers for their patience as we get things back to normal and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
