Craig Revel Horwood has discussed the latest Strictly Come Dancing series on Good Morning Britain.

The BBC judge spoke to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid following the latest celebrity line-up's first spin on the dancefloor.

Revealing that he'd like to see same-sex couples on the show, he told Piers: "I'm totally for it. I don't see why a woman can't dance with a woman or a man dance with a man, you just have to choose who goes backwards and that's usually who is shorter. It's an easy thing to achieve."

Of course Piers couldn't resist the opportunity to make a dig at those who identify as gender-fluid, asking how Craig would feel if someone wanted to dance with a man one week and a woman the next.

"I have no worry about that," he said. "I don't think that's questionable, is it?"

Revealing his ones to watch this series, aside from the celebs who are already good technically, he said: "Joe [Sugg] surprised me a lot because he's relatively unknown to most of the world, apart from his eight million followers online of course.

"Susannah [Constantine], who is right at the bottom rungs of the leader board, is in the dance gutter at the moment. With her on that wheel of fortune, there is only one way to go and that is up."

The 53-year-old also gave this theory on why Strictly Come Dancing is still so popular – and beating The X Factor in ratings.

"I think it's because it's inherent to people, to human beings," he said.

"People were dancing round fires for fertility so it's inbuilt in human nature. It's a skill you can learn and use at home and it brings people together from 3-year-olds to 93-year-olds. You get a huge cross-section of the community watching it."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am.
