Strictly Come Dancing star Carlos Gu has pulled out of the upcoming Christmas special due to injury.

The professional dancer was due to compete with Vogue Williams in the special, but has been forced to withdraw following an ankle injury, with Gorka Márquez set to be his replacement.

“Unfortunately, professional dancer, Carlos Gu, has sustained an ankle injury so is unable to participate in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special alongside contestant Vogue Williams,” said a spokesperson for the show.

“Fellow professional dancer, Gorka Márquez, will be stepping in for him and dancing with Vogue. We all wish him a speedy recovery.”

Williams, who has previously appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, had previously spoken about her excitement at joining the show, saying: “I'm so excited to join the Strictly family!

“Carlos would have more of a chance of winning a Nobel prize than turning me into a good dancer but I am determined to try my very best! I'm loving it so far. Bring on the Ballroom floor."

Williams will be joined in the special by Josh Widdicombe, Tayce, Tamzin Outhwaite, Billy Monger and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, with the professional line-up comprising of Karen Hauer, Kai Widdrington, Nikita Kuzmin, Nadiya Bychkova and Nancy Xu.

“Expect festive cheer, jingle bells, mistletoe madness, bedazzling baubles and six celebrities all sleighing their way to Elstree in a bid to be crowned the Strictly Christmas Champion 2024,” reads the logline, with the ballroom set to be turned into a “magical winter wonderland.”

The special will air on BBC One on Christmas Day, with the six celebrities hoping to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke as they aim to get their hands on the festive Glitterball Trophy.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
